Teacher Belinda Xhafka and her students from Edith Durham School conceived the project “Give a Smile, Give Hope” inspired by a simple yet powerful idea: “Pass kindness forward.” The initiative was implemented with the support of the M. & M. Ivanaj Foundation Institute as part of the “Mirash Ivanaj – Teacher of the Year” Award.

The goal was simple and clear: to teach students that kindness does not stop with the person who receives it—it can be passed on through meaningful actions toward those who need it most. On June 1st on  International Children's Day, Teacher Belinda and her students collected and prepared gifts for children hospitalized in the General Pediatrics Department at the University Hospital Center “Mother Teresa” (QSUNT), who were unable to celebrate the occasion like their friends.

Toys, books, and small surprises were distributed to more than 60 children, bringing them moments of joy and reminding them that, even on difficult days, they are not alone. For the students, this was an opportunity to put into practice the values they learn every day: caring for others, solidarity, and responsibility toward their community.

We extend our sincere thanks to Teacher Belinda Xhafka and her students for this inspiring initiative and for sharing a simple but meaningful message: Kindness only truly matters when it is shared.
