At the Academy of Sciences of Albania, the “M. & M. Ivanaj” Foundation organized a commemorative event entitled “The Ivanaj Family – A Legacy in Service of Albania,” dedicated to the extraordinary contribution of the Ivanaj family to Albanian history, education, culture, and public life.
In the history of a nation, progress is shaped not only by major political events, but also by individuals and families who leave a lasting mark on institutions and society through their vision, knowledge, and integrity. The Ivanaj family represents such a legacy and a remarkable example of dedication to education, public service, and the national interest, values that continue to inspire generations today.
The event highlighted the importance of preserving and promoting this legacy, not only as an integral part of our history, but also as a source of guidance and inspiration for younger generations. Remembering and honoring those who contributed to the foundations of modern Albania remains a shared responsibility, ensuring that the values they embodied continue to be passed on.
The program opened with remarks from Deputy Minister of Education and Sports Ms. Orjana Osmani and former Ambassador Mr. Mal Berisha. Participants then had the opportunity to attend presentations delivered by distinguished figures from the academic and public spheres, including Academician Emeritus Gjovalin Shkurtaj, Prof. Dr. Nevila Nika, Associate Professor Hasan Bello, Ms. Alba Haruni, Mr. Dario Haruni, and Mr. Mentor Kikia, who shared reflections and insights on the role and impact of the Ivanaj family in Albania’s development.
The “M. & M. Ivanaj” Foundation extends its sincere gratitude to the Academy of Sciences of Albania for its hospitality and cooperation in hosting this event. Special thanks are also due to the close friends and collaborators of Drita Ivanaj, including Professor Neritan Ceka, former Ambassador Mal Berisha, and researcher and professor Përtefe Leka, as well as to all speakers and participants who contributed to this meaningful day of reflection and tribute.
Through this commemorative event, it was once again reaffirmed that the legacy of the Ivanaj family belongs not only to the past but remains a living part of Albania’s national memory and an enduring source of inspiration for the future.
