Schools of Bubq and Ishëm, located in the Durrës area, were destroyed during the November 2019 earthquake in Albania. The Earth shaking, combined with the destruction of houses, schools, and consequently living in a tent, and loss of loved ones, have severely affected psychologically both adults and children in these areas.

In this matter we are implementing simultaneously three different projects funded by the Valbin's Center for International Programs (CIP), of Washington DC, and developed during the summer notwithstanding the pandemic.

Within the Project “Women for Children” we have planned counseling sessions with an experienced therapist specialized in trauma psychology. The sessions will be held for 4 weeks, with a frequency of 1 training per week.

Yesterday we started our first Training at “Don Nikoll Kacorri” high school located in Durrës, Këneta e Durrësit. These trainings will provide psychological help to parents (mothers) and children of destroyed schools to recover from loss and trauma by the earthquake. Active participants were 20 mothers and children from 14 to 16 years old. The topic discussed for this first session was the communication between mothers and children, and the relevance of conveying insights to support and understand each other better during distressing times.

This is just the beginning of our work towards the final goals of this project deal that you will see documented in all its aspects as we go along with pictures and regular blog posts.
